Most companies recognize the importance of developing new strategies to improve the firm's performance over the long run. Yet, oddly, little attention is paided to developing the strategic thinking capabilities these managers need to formulate and implement such new strategies. Managers are trained to, quite literally, 'manage' the present, while their development as strategist is left up to 'experience'.
